Setup
- Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start inside the box, spaced to form a compact defensive shape
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start outside the box perimeter, each holding a ball and assigned a number
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned just outside the box to call out attacker numbers
- Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 30x20 yard box, 1 ball per attacker positioned with each blue player outside the box
Instructions
- The coach calls out an attacker's number to initiate play.
- The selected attacker dribbles into the box, aiming to maintain possession or score.
- Defenders quickly form a compact defensive structure to block the attacker.
- After the ball goes out of play, the coach calls another attacker's number to repeat the process.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively to maintain defensive structure.
- Stay focused and organized.
- Adopt a low, side-on body position for agility.
- Nearest defender quickly closes down the attacker.
- Exhibit patience and wait for the right moment to tackle.
- Maintain a compact and cohesive unit.
- Attempt to reclaim possession when possible.
- Direct the attacker predictably to manage threats.
- Employ double-teaming tactics for control.
- Use vocal coordination to enhance teamwork.
- Master individual defending skills like jockeying and tackling.
- Understand and apply key defensive principles such as pressure, cover, support, and compactness.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Allow two attackers to enter simultaneously.
3. Limit defenders to tackle only with specific techniques.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area to give defenders more space.
2. Allow defenders to use a free touch system initially.
3. Permit attackers to start with their back to goal, reducing immediate pressure.
