- Cones
- 2 Mini goals
- Soccer balls
- Bibs for team identification
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One mini goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starting at one end of the area ready to play
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starting at the opposite end of the area ready to play
- Equipment: Cones marking the 20x20 yard area, 2 mini goals positioned at the centre of each end line, bibs for team identification, soccer balls for play
Instructions
- Play begins with both teams competing to score in the opposing goal.
- If a player scores, they must sprint around the entire area before rejoining.
- This creates a temporary numerical advantage for the defending team.
- Continue play without stopping, monitoring intensity and duration.
Coaching Points
- Encourage quick, quality ball movement.
- Focus on producing decisive end products.
- Monitor player overload and ensure adequate recovery.
- Adapt training intensity based on fitness levels.
- Ensure training specificity to football.
- Progressively increase duration or intensity to maintain challenge.
- Prioritize the quality of performance over quantity.
- Optimize muscle efficiency specific to football activities.
- Remain flexible in planning to adapt to players' recovery needs.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Require the scoring player to complete two laps before rejoining.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the area size to 15x15 yards.
2. Allow the scoring player to only jog the lap.
3. Provide a resting period after each goal.
