Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for boundary setup
  • 2 mini goals
  • Multiple footballs
  • Bibs for differentiating teams
Setup
  1. Area: 40x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One mini goal on each end line
  3. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players (Team A) start with the ball on their own end line, ready to attack the mini goal defended by Team Red
  4. Team Red: 4 red outfield players (Team B) start on their own end line, defending their mini goal against Team A's attack
  5. Neutral: 4 black outfield players (Team C) start off the field beside the area, waiting to enter and attack or defend once possession rotates to them
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the four corners of the 40x30 yard area, 2 mini goals positioned on each end line, multiple footballs at the attacking team's end line, bibs to differentiate the three teams
Instructions
  1. Team A attacks Team B, aiming to score in the mini goal.
  2. If Team A scores, they retain possession and attack Team C.
  3. If Team A misses the goal, Team B retrieves the ball and attacks Team C.
  4. If defenders clear the ball out, attackers restart from their end line.
  5. If defenders win possession, they must complete three consecutive passes before counter-attacking the next team.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage constant communication among defenders.
  • Maintain concentration and good body positioning.
  • Have the nearest player close down the ball quickly.
  • Stay compact and patient defensively.
  • Quickly identify and block potential passing options.
  • Encourage double-teaming on the ball carrier where appropriate.
  • Focus on intercepting passes.
  • Use body shape to guide attackers into predictable areas.
  • Develop understanding of positional play both in and out of possession.
  • Work on individual defensive skills like jockeying and tackling.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Limit the time attackers have on the ball.
2. Increase the number of passes required by defenders to switch from defense to attack.
3. Decrease the defensive space to 30x20 yards to challenge defenders further.
Make it easier:
1. Allow attackers more space by increasing the area to 50x40 yards.
2. Reduce the pass count required for defenders to transition to attack.
3. Allow defenders to knock the ball out without restarting from their end line.
