- Cones
- Balls
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts lined up on one side of the area, each attempt taken with a ball
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts lined up on the opposite side of the area, each attempt taken with a ball
- Equipment: An odd number of cones (minimum 5) arranged in a central line across the middle of the area, each cone with a ball balanced on top
Instructions
- Each player, one at a time, attempts to knock the balls off the cones using only one kick.
- Players retrieve their balls and return to their line for another attempt.
- Count the number of successful hits per team in a set timeframe.
- Replace the balls on the cones after each round and repeat.
Coaching Points
- Encourage player participation and enthusiasm throughout the drill.
- Ensure the activity is age-appropriate and engaging.
- Facilitate the drill without over-coaching; let players learn through play.
- Focus on using the correct kicking technique.
- Promote the usage of different parts of the foot for varied kicking styles.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Use the non-dominant foot only.
2. Increase the distance from cones to players.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the distance between the players and cones.
2. Allow multiple kicks per turn to knock down a ball.
