- Balls
- Cones
Setup
- Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones
- Team Red: 2 red defenders start inside the area for the 2v2 contest
- Team Blue: 2 blue attackers start inside the area for the 2v2 contest
- Neutral: 4 black perimeter players spaced evenly around the edges of the area, one designated as the server holding the ball to take the throw-in
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners and edges of the 30x30 area, balls used by the server for throw-ins
Instructions
- The server delivers the ball via a throw-in to the attackers within the area.
- Attackers aim to control the ball and pass it back to a perimeter player.
- If defenders gain possession, they become attackers.
- Rotate roles consistently to maintain intensity.
- Focus on quality throw-ins and quick transitions between roles.
Coaching Points
- Focus on cushion or wedge technique when receiving.
- Encourage clear and effective communication.
- Decide on the appropriate body surface early for ball control.
- Keep your head up and scan the field.
- Consistently keep the ball in motion.
- Position yourself in line with the incoming ball.
- Approach the ball at an angle to facilitate ball control.
- Use varied passing techniques appropriate for the situation.
- Select the correct body part to control - thigh, chest, feet.
- Position your body effectively to receive the ball.
- Work on teamwork and coordination.
- Diagnose and correct both on and off ball faults.
- Observe all players closely and offer demonstrations where necessary.
- Decide when, where, and what type of pass to execute.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Increase the opponent's intensity by adding an extra defender inside.
3. Increase the speed of the throw-in deliveries.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area size to allow more space for control.
2. Use fewer defenders initially to reduce defensive pressure.
