Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Markers for a 60x30 yard area and thirds division
  • 4 Goals
  • Soccer balls, one per player
Setup
  1. Area: 60x30 yard area marked with cones, divided into three equal 20x30 yard thirds
  2. Goals: Two goals on each short end line (four goals total)
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts in the middle third, in front of the goals at their own end, with a ball
  4. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts in the middle third, in front of the goals at the opposite end, with a ball
  5. Equipment: Markers outlining the 60x30 yard area and the two lines dividing it into thirds, 4 goals (two on each short end line), 1 soccer ball per player
Instructions
  1. The red player starts by dribbling towards opposite goals with the aim to score.
  2. Once they score, they immediately become the defender for the next phase.
  3. The blue player then attacks the goals in the opposite direction.
  4. Continue the sequence, alternating roles, and keep score of goals.
  5. Players must be in the final third before attempting to score.
Coaching Points
  • Use laces to move ball with few touches.
  • Maintain stride and speed while dribbling.
  • Keep head up to scan for opportunities and space.
  • Quick first touch to prepare the next move.
  • Use communication effectively to signal intentions to teammates.
  • Encourage a positive mindset in exploiting open spaces.
  • Utilize changes of direction to unsettle the defender.
  • Understand when and how to maximize created space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Add a time limit to score for each player.
3. Introduce a passive defender in the middle third.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the goals to improve scoring chances.
2. Allow players to score from the middle third.
3. Remove the defensive role, focusing solely on attacking.
