Equipment
- Balls
- Cones for playing area boundaries
- Cones for small goals
Setup
- Area: 40x20 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One small cone goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts lined up at one end of the area
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts lined up at the opposite end of the area
- Equipment: Balls placed centrally in the area, cones marking the boundaries of the 40x20 area, small cones forming a goal at each end line
Instructions
- Coach calls two numbers.
- Players with those numbers sprint to collect a ball and attempt to score through the opposing team's cone goals.
- Drill ends when a goal is scored or the ball exits the play area.
- Players return to their starting positions for the next round.
Coaching Points
- Use laces to dribble with speed.
- Keep head up to scan the field.
- Execute a strong first touch to push the ball forward.
- Communicate effectively with teammates.
- Understand when and where to exploit space.
- Maintain stride with minimal touches.
- Recognize opportunities through quick scanning.
- Adapt footwork to change direction as needed.
- Encourage positive mindset towards driving forward.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the space to 30x15.
2. Introduce a defender to increase pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Increase playing area to 50x25.
2. Allow players more time to control the ball before sprinting.
3. Use larger goals to simplify scoring.
