Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark 35x25 yard area
  • Two small goals
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 35x25 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One small goal centred on each end line of the area
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players, 1 starting inside the area as the first defender and 1 waiting just outside the area ready to enter after three consecutive attacker passes
  4. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players spaced evenly across the area to begin in possession of the ball
  5. Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of one small goal
  6. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the opposite small goal
  7. Equipment: Cones marking the corners and edges of the 35x25 yard area, two small goals positioned on the centre of each end line, soccer balls for play
Instructions
  1. Attacking team starts by maintaining possession against the defender.
  2. After three consecutive passes, add an extra defender.
  3. Continue adding defenders as passes are completed.
  4. Defenders aim to win the ball and score in either goal.
  5. If defenders gain possession, attackers must attempt to regain the ball.
Coaching Points
  • Emphasize clear communication on the field.
  • Ensure proper angles and distances for support.
  • Focus on a quality first touch and keeping heads up.
  • Encourage constant movement off the ball.
  • Stress the importance of accurate and timely passes.
  • Support teammates quickly after passing.
  • Maintain a proper body shape for receiving and passing.
  • Avoid forcing the pass and keep ball movement constant.
  • Prioritize fast, confident passing.
  • Correct technical errors in passing as needed.
  • Reinforce pass and move dynamics throughout practice.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Start with two defenders instead of one.
3. Require more consecutive passes before an additional defender is added.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow attackers more touches on the ball.
3. Start with no defenders and gradually add them after several successful passes.
