Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Full-size goal
  • Markers for positioning (6yd line, 18yd box corners, and attack start points)
  • Balls for attackers
  • Cones for markers
  • Two groups of attackers
Setup
  1. Area: Full-size goal with 18yd box, attackers positioned at the corners of the box.
  2. Goals: One full-size goal at the end of the area.
  3. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield attackers, one positioned at each corner of the 18yd box, each with a ball.
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on a marker at the center of the 6yd line.
  5. Equipment: 2 cones marking the corners of the 18yd box where attackers start, plus 1 cone 5yds in front of each attacker group marking their dribble target.
Instructions
  1. The first attacker dribbles toward the marker and approaches the goal.
  2. The attacker can either continue dribbling toward the goalkeeper or shoot immediately.
  3. The goalkeeper adjusts their position based on the ball's location, covering angles to challenge the attacker effectively.
  4. After the play ends, the goalkeeper returns to the starting position.
  5. The second attacker begins immediately after the goalkeeper is set.
  6. Repeat the sequence, ensuring realistic game speed and monitoring the goalkeeper's workload.
Coaching Points
  • Use correct technique and body position.
  • Stand large and still in 1v1 situations.
  • Expect a shot at all times.
  • Secure the ball safely with elbows tucked.
  • Display confidence during 1v1 encounters.
  • Efficiently cover angles.
  • React quickly to ball movement.
  • Assess angle and distance, and analyze before moving.
  • Keep head steady, look forward during approach.
  • Command the ball and zone actively.
  • Ensure focus and organization consistently.
  • Emphasize the importance of goalie’s starting position.
  • Encourage fast decision-making in dynamic situations.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the distance between the attacker's starting point and the goal to increase difficulty for the goalkeeper.
2. Add a second attacker to introduce passing options.
3. Position the goalkeeper further off the line to challenge their ability to cover ground.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the distance between the attacker's starting point and the goal.
2. Allow the attacker to dribble at a slower pace.
3. Use a smaller goal to decrease scoring angles.
