Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Multiple balls (one per player)
- Cones to mark a 20x20 yard area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones, adjusted larger for more players
- Group: 1 player (minimum, one per additional player) dribbling a ball spaced evenly throughout the area
- Equipment: 1 ball per player, cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area
Instructions
- Players dribble their ball around the area, maintaining control and awareness of space.
- On the coach's command, 'Heads' or 'Tails,' players stop their ball and respond accordingly:
- - 'Heads': Players place their head on the ball.
- - 'Tails': Players sit on the ball.
- Encourage players to stop the ball using their feet without using hands.
- Resume dribbling upon the next command or signal.
Coaching Points
- Encourage continuous player engagement.
- Focus on players' ability to maneuver in a given space.
- Emphasize maintaining close control over the ball.
- Prioritize making the session enjoyable and age-appropriate.
- Encourage learning through play; let the game be the teacher.
- Emphasize changing and controlling the dribbling speed.
- Improve players' understanding of spatial awareness.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Increase the dribbling speed requirement on command.
3. Use 'Heads' and 'Tails' commands in quick succession.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the playing area to provide more space.
2. Allow players to use hands to stop the ball initially if needed.
3. Give more time between commands for younger or new players.
