Equipment
- Two cones
- Multiple balls
- One server
Setup
- Area: Open space with two cones 5 yards apart, no fixed boundary
- Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned starting between the two cones
- Coach: 1 grey server/coach positioned 10 yards in front of the cones with a supply of balls
- Equipment: 2 cones placed 5 yards apart on the ground, multiple balls at the coach's position
Instructions
- Goalkeeper starts by side-stepping towards one cone.
- Upon reaching the cone, the goalkeeper touches it, then quickly moves towards the opposite cone.
- As the goalkeeper touches the first cone, the server hits the ball towards any side of the cones.
- Goalkeeper attempts to collect or parry the ball away with quick recovery movements.
Coaching Points
- Maintain a balanced set position with body weight forward.
- Communicate effectively with teammates.
- Stand large and still in 1v1 scenarios.
- Early decision-making on actions to take.
- Display positive and proactive attitude.
- Anticipate shots consistently.
- Cover all possible angles during plays.
- Be confident and calm under pressure.
- React swiftly to shots.
- Assess the angle and distance when approaching the opponent.
- Keep knees slightly bent.
- Evaluate ball flight and speed diligently.
- Glide smoothly into ready positions.
- Encourage explosive movements and maintain focus.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the distance between the cones to increase reaction speed.
2. Add a second server to simulate unpredictable shots.
3. Make the server shoot at varying heights to test versatility.
Make it easier:
1. Always use the same direction
2. Use a softer and slower ball when serving.
3. Allow the goalkeeper to start from a standing position without sidestepping.
