Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for marking the area
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 15x15 yard square marked with cones
  2. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players (attackers) start spaced evenly inside the square, one holding the ball
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player (defender) starts in the centre of the square
  4. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 15x15 yard square, 1 soccer ball
Instructions
  1. Attackers maintain possession by throwing the ball to a teammate.
  2. The receiving player volleys the ball using the inside of the foot to another attacker.
  3. The other attacker must catch the ball cleanly.
  4. The defender attempts to intercept or touch the ball.
  5. Switch roles if the ball touches the ground, the defender touches the ball, or after a set time.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage constant communication among players.
  • Focus on first touch control and precise volleys.
  • Ensure fluid movement off the ball to receive passes.
  • Encourage players to stay active and maintain defensive awareness.
  • Regularly hydrate to maintain peak performance.
  • Gradually increase intensity to enhance focus and readiness.
  • Monitor players' body language and engagement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the area to increase pressure.
2. Add a second defender to increase difficulty.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area size to give attackers more space.
2. Allow attackers to use two touches before volleying.
