Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls (1 per pair)
  • Cones (to mark the 20x20 area)
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 2 outfield players (1 pair) start randomly positioned within the area
  3. Equipment: cones marking the corners of the 20x20 area, 1 soccer ball per pair
Instructions
  1. Players pass and move continuously within the grid.
  2. Limit touches to one or two where possible to quicken play.
  3. After releasing the ball, players should quickly change direction and find space.
  4. Encourage awareness of space, other players, and available passing lanes.
Coaching Points
  • Communicate effectively with teammates.
  • Use a good first touch to control the ball.
  • Keep your head up to observe surroundings.
  • Ensure passes are accurate and well-timed.
  • Use the furthest foot to receive and face forward.
  • Stay light on your feet and adjust body shape.
  • Aim standing foot at the target to support passing accuracy.
  • Maintain constant ball movement and control.
  • Support teammates by providing angles and appropriate distance.
  • Use the inside of the foot for strong and balanced control.
  • Observe the session and make necessary adjustments.
  • Encourage crisp passes and quick movement to create space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Limit players to one-touch passing only.
3. Introduce an additional ball into the area.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow unlimited touches for players.
3. Use more balls to reduce pressure and create more options.
