Equipment
- Soccer balls (1 per pair)
- Cones (to mark the 20x20 area)
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 2 outfield players (1 pair) start randomly positioned within the area
- Equipment: cones marking the corners of the 20x20 area, 1 soccer ball per pair
Instructions
- Players pass and move continuously within the grid.
- Limit touches to one or two where possible to quicken play.
- After releasing the ball, players should quickly change direction and find space.
- Encourage awareness of space, other players, and available passing lanes.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively with teammates.
- Use a good first touch to control the ball.
- Keep your head up to observe surroundings.
- Ensure passes are accurate and well-timed.
- Use the furthest foot to receive and face forward.
- Stay light on your feet and adjust body shape.
- Aim standing foot at the target to support passing accuracy.
- Maintain constant ball movement and control.
- Support teammates by providing angles and appropriate distance.
- Use the inside of the foot for strong and balanced control.
- Observe the session and make necessary adjustments.
- Encourage crisp passes and quick movement to create space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Limit players to one-touch passing only.
3. Introduce an additional ball into the area.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow unlimited touches for players.
3. Use more balls to reduce pressure and create more options.
