Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- - Cones for playing area and end zones
- - Two small goals
- - One regular goal
- - Multiple balls
Setup
- Area: 40x20 yard area marked with cones, with two 10-yard end zones
- Goals: Two small goals at one end line and one regular goal at the opposite end line
- Team Red: 2 red outfield players, 1 starting in front of the regular goal as the defender and 1 teammate starting near the small-goal end ready to join counter-attacks
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the regular goal's goal line
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players (an attacking pair) starting at the midfield line with a ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the 40x20 area and the two 10-yard end zones, multiple balls
Instructions
- The attacking pair (whites) begins by passing to an opponent in a diagonal position.
- They then advance to create a 2v1 situation against the defender.
- The aim is to maneuver the ball into the end zone and attempt a shot on the goal.
- If the defender wins possession, they pass to their teammate, initiating a 2v2 counter-attack towards the small goals.
- The phase ends when a goal is scored or the ball exits play.
- Rotate defenders and attack with the opposite team after a set time.
Coaching Points
- Encourage clear and effective communication between teammates.
- Emphasize quick, decisive decision-making.
- Focus on maintaining the quality of each first touch.
- Keep heads up to assess the field and options.
- Constantly move the ball with purpose to unsettle the defender.
- Position with optimal angles and distances for support.
- Master the skill of individual defending in 1v1 and 1v2 scenarios.
- Target shooting accuracy while on the move.
- Develop the ability to isolate the defender and create scoring passes.
- Use non-linear movements to retain unpredictability.
- Prioritize playing forward when opportunities arise.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add a second defender to make it 2v2 from the start.
2. Reduce the space available by shrinking the playing area.
3. Require goals to be scored outside a specific target zone.
Make it easier:
1. Allow the attacking side more space by widening the playing area.
2. Provide attackers with 2-3 seconds head start before the defender can engage.
3. Reduce the defensive pressure by starting with a single passive defender.
