Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones to define the playing area
- Randomly placed cones within the area
- One ball per player
Setup
- Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 player starts inside the area with a ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the four corners of the 15x15 yard area, plus additional cones scattered randomly within the area as target points, one ball per player
Instructions
- Players begin dribbling the ball at a slow pace around the area.
- On the coach's command, players dribble quickly to a nearby cone, perform a turn, and continue to another cone.
- Players maintain the fast pace for 30 seconds, aiming to visit as many cones as possible.
- After the high-intensity interval, players return to a slow dribble for active recovery.
- Repeat the cycle multiple times, integrating competitive elements by challenging players to reach a set number of cones.
Coaching Points
- Maintain quality and control while dribbling.
- Encourage quick ball movement and frequent direction changes.
- Emphasize endurance and effective aerobic conditioning.
- Adapt drill intensity based on player fitness levels.
- Monitor recovery times to prevent overtraining.
- Progressively increase intensity or duration as players adapt.
- Ensure dribbling exercise is game-relevant for realistic practice outcomes.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of cones players must reach within the time limit.
2. Shorten the recovery periods between high-intensity intervals.
Make it easier:
1. Extend recovery periods to allow more rest between fast dribbling phases.
2. Reduce the number of cones required in each high-intensity interval.
