Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • 3 Small goals
  • Cones to mark a 20x30 playing area
Setup
  1. Area: 20x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: 3 small goals (1 yard wide) evenly spaced along one end line
  3. Team Red: 3 red outfield players start positioned behind the goals, one behind each of the three small goals, acting as defenders/targets
  4. Team Blue: 6 blue outfield players start inside the playing area
  5. Equipment: cones marking the 20x30 yard area, balls held by the red players to start each phase
Instructions
  1. Attackers must complete at least three passes before attempting to score through a goal.
  2. If defenders win the ball, they dribble through the opposite goals to score.
  3. Once possession changes, nearest three players become targets, and target players rotate into the field, maintaining a 6v3 format.
  4. Restart with the new defending team passing to attackers after a goal.
Coaching Points
  • Ensure clear communication between players.
  • Maintain effective support angles and distances.
  • Utilize a quality first touch, keeping the head up.
  • Keep the ball moving into open spaces.
  • Execute precise, well-timed passes with possible disguise.
  • Assess if a forward pass is feasible.
  • Adjust angle on first touch to gain space.
  • Demonstrate good off-the-ball movement.
  • Receive using the furthest foot to maximize space.
  • Formulate beneficial triangles and diamonds for support.
  • Develop rapid transitions between defense and attack.
  • Maintain awareness of all passing options.
  • Utilize appropriate body shape for each situation.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the allowed number of preparatory passes.
2. Shrink the size of the playing area.
3. Increase the number of defenders.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the play area size.
2. Allow more preparatory passes before goal attempts.
3. Decrease the number of working defenders.
