Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for grid setup
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 25x25 yard grid marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 3 red outfield players positioned inside the grid to play a possession game against Team Blue
  3. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players positioned inside the grid to play a possession game against Team Red
  4. Neutral: 3 black wall players spaced evenly around the outside perimeter of the grid, each able to receive and pass the ball back into the central area
  5. Equipment: cones marking the four corners of the 25x25 yard grid, soccer balls used to start play with the central teams
Instructions
  1. Players in possession use wall players to maintain and shift the play.
  2. The central teams aim to create passing triangles with the assistance of wall players.
  3. Encourage communication and strategic use of wall players to change the point of attack.
  4. Rotate the teams periodically so each acts as wall players during the session.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage clear and constant communication.
  • Position body for optimal receiving angle.
  • Maintain proper distance and angles for support.
  • Use first touch to control and reposition.
  • Make intelligent decisions on pass selection.
  • Balance holding possession with timely ball movement.
  • Utilize wall players to vary and disguise play.
  • Ensure ground passes for accuracy.
  • Foster awareness of changing passing lanes.
  • Encourage looking up before receiving the ball.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Limit touches for central players to increase challenge.
2. Decrease grid size to intensify pressure.
3. Allow wall players to use limited touches.
Make it easier:
1. Increase grid size to reduce pressure.
2. Permit unlimited touches for central players.
3. Allow wall players to move along the sideline to provide easier passing options.
