Equipment
- Corner of a pitch
- Cones
- Soccer balls
- Goalkeeper gloves
Setup
- Area: Penalty box width by penalty box depth area marked in the corner of the pitch
- Group: 1 goalkeeper (yellow) starts centrally within the marked area, facing the corner
- Coach: 1 grey server positioned at the corner arc to deliver crosses
- Equipment: 4 cones placed inside the 6-yard box as obstacles, soccer balls at the server's position
Instructions
- The server delivers a swinging corner kick into the box.
- Goalkeeper assesses the ball's flight and pace.
- Goalkeeper approaches at a slight angle, takes off on one foot, and collects the ball at the highest point possible.
- Ensure clear and loud communication throughout.
- Coach observes and gives feedback on technique and decision-making.
Coaching Points
- Use correct technique to collect high balls.
- Take off on one foot to maximize reach.
- Communicate clearly and decisively.
- Approach the ball at a slight angle to optimize positioning.
- Assess the flight and pace of the ball effectively.
- Maintain a light and agile stance.
- Employ good footwork for lateral and vertical movement.
- Stay focused and organized when dealing with crosses.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed and difficulty of the server's delivery.
2. Add an extra obstacle within the 6-yard box.
Make it easier:
1. Allow the server to throw the ball underhand for more control.
2. Reduce the number of cones in the 6-yard box.
