Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones for marking the 30x30 area
Setup
  1. Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 2 red players start inside the area, forming a passing pair
  3. Neutral: 4 black outside players spaced evenly around the perimeter of the area, plus 1 black defender positioned in the centre of the area attempting to intercept passes
  4. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 30x30 yard area
Instructions
  1. Pairs receive a pass from an outside player.
  2. The first player quickly passes to their partner.
  3. The second player passes back to an outside player.
  4. Continue the sequence while maintaining possession.
  5. The defender in the middle attempts to intercept passes.
  6. Rotate outside players regularly to maintain intensity.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage quick, accurate passing to mimic match speed.
  • Focus on proper passing and receiving technique.
  • Monitor and adjust workload and duration based on fitness levels.
  • Implement appropriate overload and recovery cycles.
  • Allow flexible adjustments to maintain player performance and prevent burnout.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add an additional defender in the middle.
2. Decrease the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Remove the defender to focus on passing technique.
2. Allow more time for players to complete passes.
