Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark the 30x40 area
  • Two small goals (1 yd wide each)
  • One full-size goal
  • Soccer balls
  • Bibs or jerseys for team distinction
Setup
  1. Area: 30x40 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One full-size goal in the centre of either end of the pitch. Two small goals (1 yard wide) - one on each side of the full-sized goal (Total of 4 small goals)
  3. Team Blue: 6 blue outfield players start spaced evenly across the playing area as the attacking overload team
  4. Team Red: 3 red outfield players start centrally in the playing area as the defending team
  5. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned in the central full-size goal
  6. Neutral: 2 black target players, one positioned behind each small goal (Side of the Team Red GK)
  7. Equipment: cones marking the 30x40 area boundary, four small 1-yard goals, two full-size goal, soccer balls, bibs for team distinction
Instructions
  1. Attacking team must complete a minimum of three passes before attempting to score.
  2. They can score by passing through a small goal or shooting at the central goal.
  3. Once the defending team gains possession, roles switch instantly.
  4. Three players nearest the ball become two target players and a goalkeeper at the opposite end.
  5. Original target players enter the playing area to create a new 6v3 overload.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain clear communication.
  • Use effective angles and distances to support teammates.
  • Emphasize a sharp first touch.
  • Keep your head up to observe options.
  • Maintain ball circulation into open space.
  • Ensure pass quality - accuracy, timing, and disguise.
  • Choose the appropriate pass technique.
  • Consider passing forward when possible.
  • Adjust angle on first touch to find space.
  • Move effectively to receive the ball.
  • Use the furthest foot to receive passes.
  • Form triangles and diamonds for support.
  • Be aware of available passing options.
  • Shape your body to receive and distribute effectively.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the playing area size.
2. Limit the number of touches per player.
3. Add an extra defender to create a 6v4 scenario.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area to provide more space.
2. Allow additional passes before attempting to score.
3. Remove a target player from defense to increase attacking chances.
