Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones or markers for the 10x10 area and three zones
  • 1 soccer ball
Setup
  1. Area: 10x10 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 1 red outfield player (defender) starts on the imaginary centre line dividing the area, facing the attacker
  3. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (attacker) starts facing the defender across the imaginary centre line, in possession of the ball
  4. Equipment: 1x1 yard zone A on one side of the area, 1x1 yard zone B on the opposite side of the area, 1x1 yard zone C positioned directly behind the defender outside the main 10x10 area, 1 soccer ball
Instructions
  1. The player with the ball dribbles towards zones A or B using deceptive movements to bypass the defender.
  2. The defender remains behind the imaginary line until the attacker makes a move.
  3. Once the attacker reaches zone A or B, they attempt to advance into zone C to score a point.
  4. Swap roles regularly to practice both attacking and defending.
  5. Emphasize quick changes of direction and pace to outmaneuver the defender.
Coaching Points
  • Use body feints and disguise to deceive the defender.
  • Maintain a good first touch and keep your head up.
  • Move the ball into open space, away from the defender's legs.
  • Accelerate quickly after changes in direction.
  • Execute turns with precision and control.
  • Encourage use of both feet for dribbling and turning.
  • Develop spatial awareness to navigate tight spaces.
  • Build confidence through experimenting with different dribbling techniques.
  • Instil a positive mindset and readiness to take on opponents.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Introduce a real defender that can cross the imaginary line after the initial move.
2. Reduce the size of zones A and B to increase difficulty.
3. Limit the number of touches allowed before reaching zone C.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the zones A and B to provide more space to maneuver.
2. Allow the defender to move slower or reduce their involvement.
3. Let the attacker use an unlimited number of touches.
