Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls (one per player)
  • Cones/Markers (to define a 20x20 yard area)
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones or markers
  2. Group: 1 player starts inside the area with a ball, spaced freely to maneuver within the area
  3. Equipment: Balls, one per player; cones/markers marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area
Instructions
  1. Players dribble inside the defined area.
  2. Practice stopping the ball with the sole of the right foot, then rotate 180 degrees anti-clockwise.
  3. Swap feet, completing the move with the sole of the left foot atop the ball.
  4. Progress through five stages: stationary skill, dribbling skill, increased speed with fakes, decision-making focus, and small-sided games.
Coaching Points
  • Keep ball control close while moving.
  • Use both feet to execute the turn.
  • Maintain awareness by keeping the head up.
  • Use acceleration post-turn for momentum.
  • Bend knees slightly for balance.
  • Increase move speed progressively.
  • Confident technique in executing the turn.
  • Develop decision-making on timing and location of moves.
  • Observe progression through skill stages.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the area size to increase pressure.
2. Introduce a passive defender to challenge players.
3. Increase the pace and frequency of turns within the drill.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area size for more maneuverability.
2. Allow players to practice turns with a stationary ball initially.
3. Encourage slower pace until comfortable with the technique.
