Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones (for borders, 5yd and 10yd goals)
  • Mini cone goals
  • Goalkeeper
Setup
  1. Area: 50x50 yard area divided into four equal 25x25 yard squares (Area 1, Area 2, Area 3, Area 4)
  2. Goals: One mini cone goal in Area 1, a 5-yard cone goal square in Area 2, a 10-yard cone goal in Area 3, and two mini cone goals in Area 4
  3. Team Red: 8 red outfield players start as defenders, two positioned inside each of the four areas
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the 10-yard goal in Area 3
  5. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start together in the centre of the grid with soccer balls, ready to attack any area
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the outer 50x50 border and the four internal squares, mini cone goal in Area 1, cones marking the 5-yard goal square in Area 2, cones marking the 10-yard goal in Area 3, and two mini cone goals in Area 4
Instructions
  1. Attacking pairs collect a ball from the center.
  2. Attackers choose any of the four areas to score, following the area's specific goal conditions.
  3. If attackers score, they return to the center for another ball and attack a new area.
  4. If the defenders block or win possession, roles switch, and play continues until all balls are used.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage quick, quality ball movement.
  • Aim for end product through varied goal approaches.
  • Balance intensity to overload aerobic systems without overtraining.
  • Adapt training based on player recovery and fatigue.
  • Increase intensity/duration as players acclimate to overload comfortably.
  • Focus on maintaining performance quality.
  • Target muscle efficiency for football-specific actions.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of goals in each area.
2. Reduce recovery time between attacks.
3. Add a floating defender in the attacking areas.
Make it easier:
1. Allow attackers extra time to attack.
2. Remove the goalkeeper from Area 3.
3. Decrease the area size to facilitate quicker scoring opportunities.
