Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Mini goals
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area
  2. Goals: Two mini goals, one angled in each of two corners of the area
  3. Group: 1 player starts on the end line, repeated for each additional player with one ball and cone each
  4. Equipment: A line of cones across the central area matching the number of players, one soccer ball placed at each cone
Instructions
  1. Players perform a dynamic exercise (e.g. high knees, skipping, or hopping) to the cone.
  2. Upon reaching the cone, players step around it, collect a ball, and dribble toward a mini goal.
  3. Players shoot for goal and retrieve their ball after shooting.
  4. Return to the end line and repeat using a different exercise.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage constant movement and enthusiasm.
  • Emphasize spatial awareness within the area.
  • Focus on close ball control while dribbling.
  • Make sure players practice with both feet.
  • Encourage basic kicking technique.
  • Ensure all players are involved and engaged.
  • Allow the drill to naturally teach spatial awareness and control.
  • Foster a fun and positive atmosphere.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the distance between the cones and goals.
2. Introduce a passive defender near the goal areas.
3. Instruct players to use their weaker foot for taking shots.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the playing area size for more control.
2. Use larger goals to increase scoring likelihood.
3. Allow players to perform slower dynamic exercises at their own pace.
