Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Two poles
  • Full-size goal
  • Ball
Setup
  1. Goals: One full-size goal
  2. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper starting at one of two poles positioned 5 yards apart in front of the goal
  3. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned in front of the goal ready to serve the ball once the goalkeeper is set
  4. Equipment: Two poles positioned 5 yards apart in front of the goal, one ball
Instructions
  1. Goalkeeper uses crossover steps to move from one pole to the other.
  2. Once at the opposite pole, the goalkeeper moves down the line into the set position.
  3. Coach serves the ball to prompt a low or mid-diving save back toward the near post.
  4. Goalkeeper shifts weight to the foot closest to the ball and dives to save.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain a balanced set position with forward body weight.
  • Use correct diving and saving techniques.
  • Decide course of action early.
  • Keep intensity high.
  • Expect a shot at all times.
  • Cover angles effectively.
  • React quickly to the play.
  • Assess approach angle and distance.
  • Bend knees slightly for better agility.
  • Analyze flight and pace of the ball.
  • Glide into ready position.
  • Aim for positive take-off and collection.
  • Stay organized and focused throughout.
  • Ensure quality technique at high speed.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed of the coach's service.
2. Reduce the distance between poles.
3. Introduce a second ball for sequential saves.
Make it easier:
1. Slow down the coach's service.
2. Increase distance between poles.
3. Allow goalkeeper more time to set before the serve.
