Equipment
- Balls
- Cones for boundary markers
- Two goals
Setup
- Area: 60x40 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal centred on each 40-yard end line
- Team Red: 5 red outfield players (3 defenders spaced across their own defensive third, 2 attackers positioned in the opponent's attacking third)
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal
- Team Blue: 5 blue outfield players (3 defenders spaced across their own defensive third, 2 attackers positioned in the opponent's attacking third)
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal
- Neutral: 3 black neutral midfielders spaced evenly across the halfway line, playing for whichever team is in possession
- Equipment: Cones marking the four corners and boundary lines of the 60x40 area
Instructions
- Goalkeeper starts play by passing to one of the back three.
- Defenders play the ball to midfielders who must combine and progress the ball forward.
- Midfield support attackers by moving into advanced positions.
- Attack continues until a goal is scored or the ball is out of play.
- Reset play from the opposite goalkeeper after each play.
Coaching Points
- Utilize width and depth effectively.
- Maintain good angles and distances for support.
- Communicate clearly on and off the ball.
- Encourage player mobility to provide options.
- Ensure correct body positioning to receive passes.
- Attack with pace and intent to exploit openings.
- Focus on quick decision-making in possession.
- Use varied tempo based on game situation.
- Create 2v1 scenarios with precise passing.
- Prioritize forward play when opportunities arise.
- Avoid forcing passes, choose quality over speed.
- Observe player body position to improve pass reception.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce time on the ball for possession team.
2. Add one more attacker to increase pressure on defense.
3. Encourage defenders to press higher up the pitch.
Make it easier:
1. Allow additional neutral midfielder for more passing options.
2. Increase playing area size to reduce pressure.
3. Permit unlimited touches for possession team.
