- Soccer balls
- Cones
Setup
- Area: 16x16 yard area marked with cones, with a 2x2 yard zone in each of the four corners.
- Group: 4 red players, one positioned in each 2x2 yard corner zone, spaced evenly around the perimeter of the area.
- Equipment: Cones marking the outer 16x16 yard boundary and the 2x2 yard zone in each of the four corners, 1 soccer ball starting with one designated player in their corner zone.
Instructions
- The player with the ball selects another player to challenge.
- They dribble into the chosen player's corner and stop the ball.
- They tag the challenger and sprint back to their original corner.
- The challenger dribbles the ball while attempting to tag the fleeing player.
- Once tagged or safe, the challenger chooses the next player to challenge.
- Use a point system for successful escapes and tags.
Coaching Points
- Emphasize effective communication between players.
- Encourage players to gradually increase intensity and speed.
- Highlight the importance of hydration.
- Focus on players' first touch and dribbling accuracy.
- Observe players' movement for body language and focus.
- Ensure warm-ups are engaging and relevant.
- Stress the role of warm-ups in preparing players physically and mentally.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the corner squares.
2. Increase the playing area size to enhance difficulty.
3. Limit the time allowed for the fleeing player to return to their corner.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the corner square size.
2. Reduce the playing area size for faster sprints.
3. Allow the fleeing player a head start after tagging.
