Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones or markers for boundary setup
  • Four portable goals
  • Ample supply of footballs
Setup
  1. Area: 40x35 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One portable goal centred on each of the four sides of the area
  3. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players (attackers) start spaced evenly across the area
  4. Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally between two of the four goals, covering both
  5. Team Red: 6 red outfield players (defenders) start spaced evenly across the area
  6. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally between the other two goals, covering both
  7. Equipment: Cones marking the 40x35-yard boundary, four portable goals positioned one on each side, ample supply of footballs
Instructions
  1. Attackers try to score in any of the four goals when in possession.
  2. If defenders win possession, they must complete the designated number of consecutive passes to earn a point.
  3. Rotate roles regularly among players to give all a chance to attack and defend.
Coaching Points
  • Foster effective communication among players
  • Encourage a positive first touch and head up for spatial awareness
  • Emphasize keeping the ball moving into space, avoiding straight lines
  • Promote a forward-thinking mindset to score
  • Ensure high-quality passes with accuracy, timing, and disguise
  • Highlight the importance of passing choices based on technique
  • Teach players to maintain possession and penetrate defensive lines
  • Adapt pace and angle of attack based on defensive pressure
  • Instruct varied tempos to suit different situations
  • Advocate for supportive movements, creating angles and distances using diamonds and triangles
  • Boost awareness of passing options and quick decision-making
  • Stress effective receiving and passing standards, using insides of feet and changing feet if needed
  • Encourage rotation and quick play, with a focus on defensive security
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of consecutive passes defenders must make to score.
2. Reduce the playing area to intensify pressure on both attackers and defenders.
3. Introduce a time limit for attackers to score after regaining possession.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the number of passes required for defenders to score.
2. Expand the playing area to give attackers more space to maneuver.
3. Add an extra attacker, reducing numerical advantage for defenders.
