Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Small cones for gates
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 player starts inside the area at a designated starting position
  3. Equipment: Multiple small cone gates placed randomly within the area, more gates than players; soccer balls for the dribbling progression
Instructions
  1. On the coach's signal, players run through as many different gates as possible, counting out loud.
  2. The player passing through the most gates in 30 seconds wins.
  3. Repeat the activity several times.
  4. Progress to dribbling a ball through the gates, extending the time to one minute.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage active participation and enthusiasm.
  • Develop spatial awareness within the area.
  • Focus on tight ball control while dribbling.
  • Promote enjoyment and engagement.
  • Use different foot surfaces for ball control.
  • Learn to vary dribbling speed.
  • Understand spatial positioning and movement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the area to increase difficulty.
2. Introduce defender(s) to challenge players while dribbling.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the area to reduce density.
2. Allow players to walk through gates without the ball initially.
