Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Goal
  • Cones
Setup
  1. Area: 30x25 yard area divided into four even zones by cones, with a goal at one end
  2. Goals: One goal centred on the end line, opposite the attackers' start line
  3. Team Red: 3 red defenders, one positioned in each of the first three zones
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
  5. Team Blue: 2 blue attackers start in two lines at the end of the area opposite the goal, each with a ball
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the outer boundary and dividing the area into four even zones, balls with each blue attacker in the start lines
Instructions
  1. Two attackers begin by dribbling from the start line, entering the first zone.
  2. Attackers combine to bypass the defender using passing or dribbling.
  3. Continue through each zone, maintaining the 2v1 dynamic.
  4. Reach the final zone, and aim to score against the goalkeeper.
  5. After the attempt, rotate players so everyone experiences both attacking and defending roles.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain high intensity to challenge fitness and decision-making.
  • Use creativity in passing and movement to exploit numerical advantage.
  • Pay attention to player recovery between repetitions.
  • Adjust workload based on age and fitness levels to prevent overtraining.
  • Encourage quick transitions from attack to defense.
  • Develop endurance for high-intensity bursts and quick recovery.
  • Focus on maintaining performance levels under fatigue.
  • Hone ability to recover focus and composure after attacks.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the number of zones to increase defensive pressure.
2. Add a second defender in one or more zones.
Make it easier:
1. Widen each zone to give attackers more space to operate.
2. Allow attackers to start closer to the final zone for quicker goal attempts.
