Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for the 30x30 yard area and gates
  • Soccer balls
  • Bibs for team identification
Setup
  1. Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: Five 2-yard wide gates positioned randomly within the area
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts on one side of the area
  4. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts on the opposite side of the area
  5. Equipment: cones marking the 30x30 yard area, cones marking five 2-yard wide gates randomly placed within the area, soccer balls, bibs for team identification
Instructions
  1. Teams aim to score by passing the ball through any gate to a teammate.
  2. The ball must be received by a teammate for the goal to count.
  3. If possession is intercepted or tackled, the opposing team gains the opportunity to score.
  4. Encourage constant movement and communication to create passing options.
Coaching Points
  • Emphasize communication among players.
  • Maintain good support angles and distances.
  • Encourage quick decision-making on and off the ball.
  • Focus on a clean first touch and playing with head up.
  • Promote constant movement and looking for space.
  • Ensure quality passes with accuracy, timing, and disguise.
  • React quickly to support teammates.
  • Use body shape effectively to receive the ball.
  • Minimize touches and spread out to maintain possession.
  • Keep the ball moving with well-weighted passes.
  • Observe and correct technical performance throughout.
  • Foster confidence in passes and awareness of options.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the gates to 1-yard wide.
2. Limit the number of touches per player to two.
3. Play with a time limit to score.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the width of the gates to 3 yards.
2. Allow players unlimited touches.
3. Assign a neutral player as a permanent passing option.
