Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark the playing area
  • Four gates (use cones or markers)
  • Footballs
  • 6 players
Setup
  1. Area: 40x40 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: Four gates, each 3 yards wide, two positioned on each sideline
  3. Team Red: 3 red outfield players start in their own half with a football
  4. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start in their own half with a football
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the 40x40 yard playing area, additional cones or markers forming four 3-yard-wide gates, two on each sideline, footballs for each team
Instructions
  1. Teams play a 3v3 game, aiming to dribble the ball through one of the gates on the opponent's side.
  2. Encourage players to run with the ball into open space.
  3. Award bonus points for successful dribbles through the gates.
  4. Rotate teams or players regularly to ensure variety.
Coaching Points
  • Use laces for ball control while running.
  • Communicate effectively with teammates.
  • Quickly exploit open spaces.
  • Maintain a good running stride with the ball.
  • Focus on a good first touch.
  • Keep head up to observe space and opponents.
  • Recognize when to pass or carry the ball.
  • Develop a positive attitude towards driving into space.
  • Differentiate between dribbling and running with the ball.
  • Use body shape to facilitate forward movement.
  • Maximize spatial awareness and decision-making.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the space between the gates.
2. Limit touches to two per player.
3. Introduce a neutral defender.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the gates for easier access.
2. Allow unlimited touches.
3. Reduce the playing area size to focus on control.
