- Goals: One goal centred on the attacking end line of the half-pitch.
- Team Red: 3 red outfield players start in defined lanes — CB positioned halfway between the center line and the penalty box, LB positioned slightly left of center in the defensive half, RB positioned mirrored slightly right of center in the defensive half.
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts with the ball at the center circle, facing the attacking goal.
- Equipment: Cones marking the sidelines and half-pitch boundary, cones marking the center line (RB rule), cones marking the penalty box at the attacking end, cones marking the Red CB's start point halfway in the forward half, cones marking the Blue attacker's start at the center circle, cones marking Red LB's start slightly left in the defensive half, cones mirroring Red RB's start on the right, and two gate cones set up on the left and right sides near the LB.
Instructions
- Players assume initial positions: Blue attacker with ball, Reds in lanes, gates around LB.
- On the whistle, Blue drives forward aiming to pass through the center gate and score.
- Blue scores by entering the gate (1 point) then netting the goal (1 more point).
- Red CB sprints back to defend, aiming to be goal-side before engaging.
- Red LB waits for Blue to enter the penalty area before tackling.
- Red RB holds until Blue crosses the center line.
- Defenders aim to block Blue and force them to the sideline gate.
- Reds earn 1 point by sending Blue through a designated sideline gate.
- Reset quickly for the next attacker, rotating waiting player into play.
Coaching Points
- Prioritize positions: Reds must communicate and zone correctly.
- Drill Red CB on speed and engagement timing.
- Train Red LB to be patient, then apply pressure in the penalty zone.
- Coach Red RB to await the center line for legal tackling.
- Encourage Blue to assess routes before selecting a path.
- Focus Blue on controlled movement with close ball control.
- Defenders should steer Blue to the sideline gate.
- Use cues like 'delay, block, angle' for defensive body positioning.
- Trigger-based tackling only: box entry, center line, CB position.
- Maintain high tempo with immediate resets.
- Avoid premature crowding by defenders; guide on proper timing.
- Reds win by forcing sideline gate; Blue wins through center gate and goal.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Narrow the pitch to increase defensive pressure.
2. Impose a 3-touch limit on Blue prior to center gate entry.
3. Introduce a second attacker, requiring defensive switches.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the field and penalty box zone for more defensive adjustment time.
2. Allow Red LB/RB to engage 1-2 steps earlier within trigger zones.
3. Permit Blue unlimited touches and shots from the penalty area.
