Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark 20x20 yard area
  • Balls (one per player)
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 player starts stationary with a ball at their feet inside the area
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the 20x20 yard area, 1 ball per player
Instructions
  1. Players tap the ball 3 times using the inside of the feet.
  2. Step over the ball from inside to outside.
  3. Use the inside of the same foot to tap the ball back to the opposite foot.
  4. Tap the ball another 3 times.
  5. Step over with the opposite foot.
  6. Repeat from the beginning, progressively increasing speed and incorporating other skills.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain close control of the ball.
  • Keep your head up while dribbling.
  • Focus on technique and speed of the move.
  • Keep knees slightly bent, staying light on your feet.
  • Gradually increase fluency and speed over time.
  • Incorporate and master different footwork techniques.
  • Encourage quick decision-making during moves.
  • Aim to have players comfortable in manipulating the ball efficiently.
  • Develop balance and coordination.
  • Create muscle memory for each movement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space to increase ball control challenge.
2. Add defenders to create a game-like scenario.
3. Introduce combinations with other footwork moves on coach's command.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the grid size for more control space.
2. Allow stationary practice before progressing to movement.
3. Focus solely on the inside foot taps without the step-over initially.
