Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls (one per pair)
  • Cones (to create area and gates)
Setup
  1. Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 2 players form a pair inside the area, one starting with the ball and the other starting shadowing closely beside them
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 30x30 yard area, plus 5 additional pairs of cones set up as small gates scattered within the area, 1 ball per pair
Instructions
  1. Players with the ball dribble around the area trying to shake off their shadowing partner.
  2. Shadowing partners avoid tackling, instead aiming to influence and follow their partner's movement.
  3. Players aim to dribble through as many gates as possible, scoring a point for each gate.
  4. Rotate roles after a minute; challenges for points by passing through gates.
  5. Continue until each partner has had equal turns as both dribbler and shadow.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain close control over the ball.
  • Keep head up to observe surroundings and make decisions.
  • Use disguise and feints to deceive the shadow.
  • Dribble with both feet.
  • Vary speed with acceleration bursts.
  • Encourage creative dribbling techniques.
  • Foster confidence in moving forward.
  • Develop spatial awareness to navigate the area.
  • Aim to use both feet proficiently.
  • Focus on mastering technique through practice.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the area to increase difficulty.
2. Increase the number of gates for more options but tighter navigation.
3. Introduce time limits per gate to encourage faster decision making.
Make it easier:
1. Enlarge the playing area for more space.
2. Reduce the number of gates for simpler navigation.
3. Allow shadows to stay further away, giving dribblers more freedom.
