Equipment
  • - Poles
  • - Cones
  • - Ball
Setup
  1. Area: Six-yard box and the area up to the edge of the 18-yard box
  2. Goals: One large goal centred on the goal line behind the six-yard box
  3. Group: 1 yellow goalkeeper starts on the edge of the six-yard box, centred between the two poles
  4. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned just inside the 18-yard box, facing the goalkeeper
  5. Equipment: 2 poles placed on the edge of the six-yard box marking the goalkeeper's central starting point, 2 cones placed inside the six-yard box, one near each post
Instructions
  1. The goalkeeper shuffles to touch one cone, returns to the center between the poles, and sets the position.
  2. As the goalkeeper sets position, the coach serves the ball for the goalkeeper to save.
  3. The goalkeeper repeats the drill, shuffling to the alternate cone.
Coaching Points
  • Ensure correct technique is used for shuffling and setting.
  • Command the six-yard box confidently.
  • Prepare hands before handling the ball.
  • Use explosive movements for shuffling.
  • Assess angle, distance, and flight of the ball accurately.
  • Maintain quick and positive take-off and collection.
  • Stay focused, organized, and light on feet.
  • Evaluate performance, ensuring high-speed actions with quality.
  • Allow adequate rest between repetitions.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the distance between cones and poles.
2. Serve the ball at different heights and speeds.
3. Introduce a second ball for a double save scenario.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the distance between cones and poles.
2. Serve the ball at a consistent pace and height.
3. Allow more time for the goalkeeper to set before the serve.
