- Multiple balls for quick restarts
Setup
- Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal or gate centred on each end line
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts spaced evenly across their own half
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts spaced evenly across their own half
- Equipment: Cones marking the perimeter and back lines of the area, multiple balls placed around the perimeter for quick restarts
Instructions
- Play follows regular football rules.
- After a goal is scored, the scoring team turns and attacks the opposite goal immediately from their back line.
- Continue play without pauses, adapting to ensure optimal intensity and recovery for all players.
Coaching Points
- Ensure ball movement is quick and precise.
- Focus on producing a final product.
- Maintain the quality of play while improving endurance.
- Progress intensity by increasing pace or extending play duration.
- Strive for football-specific workouts where possible.
- Overload the aerobic system to push players beyond their comfort zone.
- Integrate adequate recovery periods to prevent overtraining.
- Be prepared to adjust plans based on player recovery needs.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to require more movement.
2. Limit the number of touches per player to speed up play.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area to reduce the distance covered.
2. Allow more rest periods between transitions.
3. Increase the number of touches per player to reduce intensity.
