- Soccer balls
- Cones
Setup
- Area: 10x10 yard square marked with cones
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts inside the square as defender
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start on opposite outside edges of the square
- Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 10x10 yard square, 1 soccer ball per group of three
Instructions
- Blue players pass the ball around the square to each other, attempting to avoid interception by the red player.
- Blue players must complete five consecutive passes to earn one point.
- The red player earns a point by intercepting the ball three times.
- Rotate roles after a team accumulates three points.
- Encourage the use of both feet for passing.
Coaching Points
- Effective communication between teammates.
- Maintain good angles and distances for support.
- Make decisions quickly and early.
- Keep the head up while receiving the ball.
- Execute quality passes with accuracy, timing, and disguise.
- Move into space to receive passes.
- Use proper body positioning when receiving and passing.
- Pass with patience, selecting the best option.
- Keep passes on the ground for consistency.
- Foster a team-oriented approach through verbal and non-verbal cues.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the square to increase defensive pressure.
2. Increase the minimum number of passes needed for the blue team to score a point.
3. Limit the number of touches each player can take.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the square to provide more space for passing.
2. Allow the red defender to start further away from the blue players.
3. Reduce the number of interceptions needed for the red player to score a point.
