Equipment
- Cones for boundaries and jails
- Bibs (popcorn)
- Balls
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area divided by a halfway line, with a small jail square set up outside each end of the playing area
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players (2 defenders without a ball and 2 attackers with a ball) spaced evenly across their own half
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players (2 defenders without a ball and 2 attackers with a ball) spaced evenly across their own half
- Equipment: cones marking the boundaries of the 20x20 area and the corners of each jail, plus a bib (popcorn) placed at the entrance of each jail
Instructions
- Players with balls attempt to dribble into opposition’s half and steal the 'popcorn'.
- The first team to successfully collect the 'popcorn' wins.
- If defenders intercept the ball, the player losing the ball goes to jail.
- Players stay in jail until coach releases them to rejoin the game.
Coaching Points
- Encourage players continuously.
- Develop space awareness in the playing area.
- Use close ball control techniques.
- Ensure every player is engaged in the session.
- Facilitate fun and enjoyment during the activity.
- Let the game teach players naturally.
- Promote teamwork.
- Practice with different parts of the foot.
- Manage ball movement at varying speeds.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Shrink the size of the jails to make it more challenging.
2. Increase the number of defenders per team.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area size to reduce pressure.
2. Allow one player to return from jail after every steal.
3. Decrease the number of defenders.
