Equipment
- Goal
- Goalkeeper
- Cones to define area and zones
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 30x25 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal at one end of the area
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start in their designated zone at the end of the area opposite the goal, acting as attackers
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start in their designated zone at the end of the area opposite the goal, acting as defenders
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the goal end of the area
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 30x25 yard area and marking the separate starting zones for each team at the end opposite the goal
Instructions
- Teams decide the number of attackers and defenders in each round (1v1, 2v1, 3v2, 4v3).
- Attackers try to score against defenders, and a goal scores points based on the scenario.
- Following a goal or dead ball, players sprint back to starting positions.
- Deduct points for the last team returning to their zone.
- Play a set number of rounds, and the team with the highest points wins.
Coaching Points
- Employ flexibility in scenario choices for varied challenges.
- Focus on maintaining high intensity to test aerobic capacity.
- Balance overload with adequate recovery to prevent burnout.
- Encourage players to work outside their comfort zone for progression.
- Prioritize specific football-related actions to enhance the training effect.
- Adopt a player-centered approach using the Four Corner Model.
- Develop both anaerobic and aerobic endurance.
- Ensure performance quality when players are fatigued.
- Encourage rapid recovery post intense action to sustain performance.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase playing area size for more running.
2. Reduce recovery time between rounds.
3. Use fewer defenders to increase pressure on attackers.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease playing area size to reduce running distance.
2. Increase recovery time between rounds.
3. Add more defenders to make it easier to prevent scoring.
