Equipment
- Balls
- Two goals
- Cones or markers
Setup
- Area: 5x5 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One small goal centred on each end line of the area
- Team Red: 2 red outfield players start on one end line of the area with one ball
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start on the opposite end line of the area with one ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 5x5 yard area, one small goal on each end line, one ball per team
Instructions
- A player serves the ball by hand to their teammate.
- The teammate attempts a header to score in the opponent's goal.
- The defending team tries to block without using hands.
- After the attempt, the defending team switches to attack.
- Encourage quick transitions between roles.
Coaching Points
- Arch the back and use the neck to generate power.
- Maintain communication and keep eyes on the ball.
- Use a good body shape to attack, contacting the top of the ball.
- Stay light on feet; use the forehead to head downwards.
- Jump using appropriate one or two-foot technique.
- Adjust body direction before heading.
- Keep eyes open and mouth closed while heading.
- Build confidence through correct demonstration and practice.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the area to increase pressure.
2. Allow only one-touch headers.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the area size for more space.
2. Permit catching the ball before heading.
