Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls (at least one per outside player)
  • Cones to mark the playing area
Setup
  1. Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 2 players (one pair) start inside the area, moving to receive passes from the outside players
  3. Neutral: 4 black players, one positioned evenly at the midpoint of each side of the square perimeter, each holding a ball
  4. Equipment: cones marking the four corners of the 30x30 yard area, 4 soccer balls held by the neutral perimeter players
Instructions
  1. Each pair inside the area moves to receive a pass from any outside player.
  2. The first player in the pair receives the ball and passes it to their partner.
  3. The second player immediately passes the ball back to a different outside player.
  4. The pair quickly seeks another ball from an available outside player.
  5. Rotate outside players regularly to maintain high intensity and engagement.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain effective communication between partners and outside players.
  • Create and exploit space to receive the ball effectively.
  • Adopt optimal angles and distances to support partners.
  • Make quick, early decisions both on and off the ball.
  • Use precise passing techniques, emphasizing accuracy, timing, and disguise.
  • React swiftly to provide support after passing.
  • Display good body shape when receiving and passing.
  • Keep the ball moving fluidly and continuously.
  • Adjust swiftly to changing scenarios and choices of passes.
  • Assess available passing options to determine the most effective pass.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase difficulty in passing.
2. Increase the speed required for each sequence.
3. Limit the number of touches per player when receiving the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to offer more space for passes.
2. Allow more time for decision-making by encouraging deliberate play.
3. Permit additional touches when receiving the ball to improve control.
