Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark out the playing area
  • Football(s)
Setup
  1. Area: 30x15 yard rectangular area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 2 red outfield players start inside the area as defenders
  3. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start inside the area as attackers, aiming to dribble across the end line to score
  4. Neutral: 1 black target player positioned outside the area, available to receive a pass from the red defenders
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners and boundaries of the 30x15 yard area, football(s) used for play
Instructions
  1. White players attack, aiming to dribble across the end line to score a goal.
  2. Red defenders prevent scoring and, upon winning the ball, pass to their target player outside.
  3. If the target player receives the pass, roles reverse.
  4. Resume play from a neutral position if the ball goes out of play.
  5. Apply regular offside rules for attacking play.
Coaching Points
  • Quickly close down the ball.
  • Effective communication between defenders.
  • Maintain focus and concentration.
  • Adopt a low, side-on defensive stance.
  • Nearest defender applies pressure quickly.
  • Demonstrate patience and timing.
  • Keep defensive shape compact.
  • Attempt to win the ball when possible.
  • Apply individual defending techniques like jockeying and tackling.
  • Always cover the nearest attacking player.
  • Challenge the ball carrier promptly.
  • Identify and obstruct potential passing lanes.
  • Encourage players to coach each other for coordination.
  • Balance and control in 1v1 scenarios.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space to 25x12 yards.
2. Increase the attacks to 4v2.
3. Introduce a time limit for white players to score.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area to 35x20 yards.
2. Decrease the attacking players to 3v1.
3. Allow an additional defender for the red team inside the area.
