Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Orange cones for squares
  • Extra cones for boundary marking
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 black octopus player starts inside a 3x3 yard orange-coned square positioned within the area
  3. Group: 1 outfield player starts lined up on one side of the 20x20 yard area, attempting to cross to the opposite side
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the 20x20 yard boundary, orange cones marking a 3x3 yard square for each octopus positioned within the area
Instructions
  1. Players attempt to cross from one side to the other without being tagged by the Octopuses.
  2. Octopuses may tag players without leaving their square.
  3. Tagged players return to the starting side and try again.
  4. Rotate player roles regularly so everyone gets a turn as an Octopus.
Coaching Points
  • Communicate effectively with teammates.
  • Gradually raise intensity to elevate heart rate.
  • Ensure players warm up thoroughly before the session.
  • Hydrate regularly to maintain performance levels.
  • Focus on first touch and body positioning.
  • Emphasize fast decision-making and fun during warm-ups.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the squares for Octopuses.
2. Increase the number of Octopuses.
3. Add a ball for players crossing the area to dribble.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the squares for Octopuses.
2. Reduce the number of Octopuses.
3. Allow more space between squares.
