Equipment
- Cones to mark a 40x30 area and the halfway line
- Goals at each end
- Supply of footballs for serving
Setup
- Area: 40x30 yard area marked with cones, divided into two halves by a halfway line.
- Goals: One goal at each end of the area.
- Team Red: 6 red outfield players start with 3 positioned in each half, acting as attackers in one half and defenders in the other.
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal.
- Team Blue: 6 blue outfield players start with 3 positioned in each half, acting as attackers in one half and defenders in the other.
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal.
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned on the halfway line with a supply of footballs.
- Equipment: Cones marking the 40x30 area and the halfway line, plus a goal at each end.
Instructions
- Coach serves the ball into the attacking team in their half.
- Attackers combine to progress the ball into the attacking half, aiming to create a shooting opportunity.
- Attackers can pass back to their defenders to maintain possession.
- If a goal is scored, the scoring team starts an attack towards the opposite goal.
- Rotate roles periodically.
Coaching Points
- Maintain team width and depth
- Communicate clearly and effectively
- Aim for a strong end product with each attack
- Attack at pace and look to play forward when possible
- Support with good angles and distances
- Make quick decisions on and off the ball
- Encourage positivity and space exploitation
- Form diamond and triangular shapes for support
- Keep the ball moving consistently
- Utilize quality technique and body position when receiving the ball
- Assess the speed of attack and exploit opportunities quickly
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Limit the number of touches for attackers to make quicker decisions.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area for more space.
2. Allow attackers unlimited touches to build confidence.
3. Add a neutral player to create numerical advantage.
