Equipment
- Soccer balls
- Cones for area boundaries
- Bibs for team and role identification
Setup
- Area: Two separate 10x5-yard zones marked with cones.
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players — 3 positioned inside their own 10x5-yard zone as attackers, 1 positioned inside the blue team's zone as the defender.
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players — 3 positioned inside their own 10x5-yard zone as attackers, 1 positioned inside the red team's zone as the defender.
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of each 10x5-yard zone, soccer balls given to the 3 attacking players in each zone, bibs worn to distinguish red and blue teams.
Instructions
- Each team plays 3 attackers versus 1 defender in the zone.
- Attackers pass and move to maintain possession.
- Defender earns a point by winning the ball and returning it to the attackers.
- First team to reach five points wins the round.
- Rotate roles after each round.
Coaching Points
- Encourage effective communication.
- Create supportive angles and distances.
- Emphasize on quality first touches and situational awareness.
- Execute accurate, timely, and disguised passes.
- Control with the furthest foot to maximize space.
- Provide constant movement options.
- Ensure at least two passing options are always available.
- Keep the ball circulating to unbalance the defender.
- Adjust positioning to generate new passing lanes.
- Rotate roles to expose players to different challenges.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Narrow the playing area.
2. Introduce an additional defender.
3. Restrict attackers to two touches.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the playing area.
2. Allow unlimited touches for attackers.
3. Add a neutral player to support the attackers.
