Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Balls
- Markers for boundary if not using a penalty area
Setup
- Area: Penalty area (approximately 18x44 yards) or similar sized space marked with markers
- Group: 2 yellow goalkeepers (one pair) positioned back-to-back at the centre of the area, facing opposite directions, each holding a ball
- Equipment: 1 ball per goalkeeper (2 balls total), plus boundary markers placed at the corners of the space if not using a penalty area
Instructions
- Goalkeepers jog across the area while bouncing and catching their ball.
- On reaching each line, they turn and jog back to the middle.
- Continue this routine for a set duration, using varied ball handling techniques.
Coaching Points
- Gradually increase intensity to raise heart rate and muscle temperature.
- Monitor each goalkeeper's touch, movement, and focus.
- Encourage regular hydration breaks.
- Highlight the importance of effective warm-ups for optimal performance.
- Ensure warm-up is progressive and engaging.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase jogging speed.
2. Add directional changes or additional techniques (e.g. rolling).
3. Include a sprint element after the turn.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the distance to cover.
2. Allow light jogging without bouncing the ball.
3. Increase rest periods between sets.
