Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones to mark the playing area
- Soccer balls to serve as 'turtle eggs'
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard square marked with cones
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player lined up at one corner of the square, with any remaining teammates queued behind them at the same corner
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player lined up at the opposite corner of the square, with any remaining teammates queued behind them at the same corner
- Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard square, soccer balls ("turtle eggs") piled at the center of the square
Instructions
- On the coach's signal, the first player from each team runs to the center.
- Each player picks up a 'turtle egg' (ball) and dribbles it back to their team's corner.
- Once they reach the corner, the next player in line repeats the process.
- Continue until all balls are collected or time is up.
- The team with the most balls at the end wins.
Coaching Points
- Encourage players consistently
- Promote spatial awareness within the area
- Focus on close control of the ball
- Ensure the session remains age-appropriate
- Foster enjoyment and fun
- Allow the game to be the teacher, minimizing direct coaching
- Engage every player throughout the session
- Encourage using different parts of the foot for control
- Develop an understanding of controlling ball speed
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the distance of the dribble by enlarging the square.
2. Require players to use their non-dominant foot for dribbling.
3. Add obstacles or additional cones within the dribbling path for more complex navigation.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the size of the square to shorten the dribble distance.
2. Allow players to carry the ball (egg) by hand to their home.
3. Provide assistance by having more than one player dribble simultaneously.
