Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones or Markers for boundaries and end lines
  • Footballs for passing practice
Setup
  1. Area: 38x27 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: No goals; attackers score by stopping the ball on the opposition's end line
  3. Team Red: 4 red outfield players start on their own end line, beginning as the attacking team
  4. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start on their own end line, beginning as the defending team
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the four corners of the 38x27 yard area and marking both end lines, footballs for passing practice
Instructions
  1. The attacking team tries to pass the ball among themselves to achieve controlled passes.
  2. The objective for the attackers is to stop the ball precisely on the opposition's end line, without overshooting.
  3. Defenders work to intercept passes and pressure attackers by reacting to their movements.
  4. Once defenders win the ball, they switch roles and aim to stop the ball on the opposing end line.
Coaching Points
  • Communicate constantly among teammates.
  • Maintain concentration throughout the drill.
  • Use an effective, low body shape, staying side-on to the ball.
  • The nearest defender should quickly close down the ball.
  • Approach attacks with patience and control.
  • Use angles effectively and maintain a balanced position.
  • Guide attackers in predictable directions.
  • Be prepared to pause play for instructional moments.
  • Cover, support, and apply pressure consistently.
  • Ensure defensive compactness and maintain formation.
  • Defend as a cohesive unit, emphasizing zone coverage.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the playing area to 40x30 meters for greater challenge.
2. Limit touches for attacking team to increase passing speed and decision-making.
Make it easier:
1. Decrease the playing area to 30x20 meters for reduced space.
2. Allow defenders to start with a numerical advantage (e.g., 5v4) to increase chances of interception.
