- Balls
- Goals at each end
- Cones/Markers for area marking
Setup
- Area: Half pitch marked with cones
- Goals: One goal at each end of the half pitch
- Team Red: 5 red outfield players positioned in their own half, including a center forward as the target for distribution
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the red team's goal, starting with the balls
- Team Blue: 5 blue outfield players positioned in their own half, ready to defend and counter
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the blue team's goal
- Equipment: Balls with the working red goalkeeper, cones/markers outlining the half-pitch area
Instructions
- The session begins with the working GK from red team receiving the ball either from a back pass or a weak shot.
- The GK aims to distribute the ball accurately to the center forward using varied techniques like kicking or throwing.
- Upon receiving the ball, the center forward and team begin an attack aiming to score.
- If the attack concludes or the opposing GK gains possession, reset the drill to the coach-determined start.
- Rotate goalkeepers after a set time interval.
Coaching Points
- Use correct distribution techniques.
- Communicate effectively with team.
- Make early decisions and commit.
- Distribute quickly with appropriate weight and accuracy.
- Assess ball flight and pace.
- Position well to receive back passes.
- Ensure quick transition between receiving and distributing.
- Move the ball forward and across the body to change angles.
- Avoid unnecessary risks.
- Focus on organized play and staying alert.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the defensive pressure from opponents.
2. Limit the time the goalkeeper has to distribute the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the number of opponents pressuring the goalkeeper.
2. Allow additional touches for the receiving player to control the ball.
